Qatar confirms one MERS case

The Qatar Ministry of Public Health announced on April 5 that an 85-year-old Qatari man was diagnosed with Middle East Respiratory Syndrome. The man suffered from multiple chronic diseases, had a history of overseas travel and had direct contact with camels before his diagnosis. He had developed MERS symptoms before returning to Qatar and was taken to the hospital upon arrival in Qatar, where he is currently receiving medical treatment. Qatar also confirmed a case of MERS on March 23.

MERS, first identified in Saudi Arabia in 2012, is a viral respiratory disease caused by a coronavirus.
